Strength and power are qualities that optimize athletic performance and prevent injuries. Although not all athletes require or can handle intensive weight lifting, all track and field athletes should engage in some type of strength training.
For our senior youth athletes (aged 13-21), strength training should first concentrate on the development of basic fitness and injury prevention. Only when these goals have been accomplished should strength and power training be implemented to focus on improving competitive performance. Maintaining maximum strength and keeping conditioning at its optimal level for an athlete’s build and chosen sport, provides a basis for lifelong injury prevention and peak performance.
TrackfitnessAustralia uses Olympic-style free weights, barbells, and plates for athletes competent in use of such equipment. We also provide expert and graduate training in this equipment, far superior to any cursory assistance given in a gym. For younger sportspeople, we use kettlebells, weighted sleds, resistance bands, and the Vertimax platform for dynamic and controlled use of resistance training. Our programs also teaches youth sportspeople to utilize their own body weight as an introduction to, and a continuing baseline for lifelong strength training.
TrackfitnessAustralia’s Strength and Conditioning training is offered as part of our Youth 10 Week Term Group Program. Head to our Timetable page for more information. If you would love to see what this training can do for you or your youth athlete, head to our Registration page to sign up to either our Youth 10 Week Term Group Program (unlimited sessions), a Ten Pack, or Pay As You Go attendance at our afternoon sessions. Programs will be tailored to the needs of each sportsperson’s sport or event, and delivered within the group training sessions. Should you have any queries, please send an enquiry below.
